Birthstones are gemstones that represent the month of your birth. They are an international trend with ancient, astrological, cultural and biblical origins. Owing to the powerful protective and healing nature of crystals, certain stones have been traditionally assigned to each month or zodiac sign. Since the 8th or 9th centuries, wearing or carrying your birthstone can help amplify the relevant energies needed to boost positive vibrations and heighten their protective element which is believed to mirror the pattern of the stars at the time of your birth.
Some trace this back to the 12 precious stones set into the breast plate of Aaron, the High Priest of the Israelites. Aaron was the elder brother, the King of Bling and spokesman or MC for Moses. As described in Exodus chapter 39.
The 12 stones in this golden breast plate represented the 12 different Israelite tribes.
The stones that we use today were defined for each month by
the National Association of Jewelers in 1912 - exactly 100 years ago -
and the same ones we use in our birthstone bracelets.
